Nonprofits and Public Facilities - Tax Credits, Rebates and Financial Assistance Rebates and tax credits currently equal nearly 50% of the cost of your solar system for residential and commercial. These credits can be used by a third party if applicable (ie corporation buys solar and donates it to a non-profit). Non-Profits and Public Facilities often can’t take advantage of tax credits, but are able to obtain other favorable incentives and loan programs. Under the California Solar Initiative, tax-exempt agencies like schools are eligible for an up-front cash incentive of $2.30/watt, and a performance-based incentive of up to $0.32/kilowatt hour (kWh) for installed solar PV systems.
